Black Panther
Black panther, a movie about T’Challa, the new king of Wakanda, a secretive yet highly advanced African nation, delves into themes of heritage, identity, and the struggle between tradition and change. After his father’s passing, T’Challa returns home to reclaim his throne and embrace his role as the Black Panther. However, his leadership is challenged by Erik Killmonger, an outsider with a personal vendetta and a plan to use Wakanda’s technology to ignite a global uprising. As T’Challa battles to reclaim his throne, he is compelled to confront profound questions about leadership, responsibility, and Wakanda’s place in the world. Since Wakanda technology is too advanced for the normal world it would be very dangerous for Erik to be king since he plans on selling the tech to any type of buyer good or bad.
The phrase Science fiction originated in 1949 by Hugo Gernsback, science fiction imagines what the future might become based on current scientific prospects. In the Movie Black panther science becomes fiction in the form of technological Advancements and futuristic ideas. There are many differences between the world of Wakanda and our current world. Some of those differences include the advanced technology they have such as holograms, advancements in the medical field we see through the Kimoyo beads and regenerative technology used as medical treatment. Black panther suit is a great example of the technological advancements, His suit was made with nanotechnology and was able to absorb kinetic energy. His suit could reduce any damage by 20% and create shock wave by 40%. In addition, society is also powered by vibranium. It is everywhere in Wakanda society from technology to infrastructure. In the Marvel world vibranium is a rare metal that can absorb vibrations and energy, it is mostly used to power weapons. In our world we do not have those advancements, nor do we Have Vibranium.
The world in Black Panther, known as Wakanda, is not realistically accurate to our world of science and technology. However, the film does represent technology in a very revolutionary way. The film was released on February 16th, 2018, and many advancements were made within society during this time. Black Panther, in some ways, represents these advancements. The story takes place on a hidden island that uses vibranium as said previously, as a resource that links to these significant evolutions. For example, hologram bracelets are used to communicate, and to design potent weapons. While our society wasn’t and still isn’t at the same revolutionary level, Significant changes have occurred. These futuristic innovations are not possible, well at least not now.
Overall, the film, “Black Panther” is saying how technology and power can be really powerful tools which can have either positive or negative effects depending on who has control over it. In the film it uses science fiction to convey this message through both T’Challa and Erik Killmonger; who both had the power of the black panther and fought throughout the movie to become King of Wakanda. With T’Challa wanting to use the futuristic technology his sister works on and the power that Wakanda has which is Vibranium while on the other hand Erik Killmonger wanted to use it to conquer the world due to the feeling of revenge and injustice he felt with his father’s death. It just helps to show how powerful certain tools can be like technology and power as it was shown in the film to affect the world when it falls to the wrong hands. It shows to the people that powerful tools aren’t a topic that should be taken lightly and should always be used for the greater good where everyone is benefited equally and justifiably. Despite our technology not being as futuristic and advanced as the film was showing people can still learn from the film to think of how the present technology that we have right now could be beneficial to various people and how it could positively affect them by sharing or connecting with one another just like it was shown in the ending of the film when T’Challa wanted to show the technology that Wakanda had to other countries that had no idea of Wakanda existing due to it being a secret place.
